Modesto New Year's Eve Guide 2026-2027: Events, Fireworks & Where to Stay

Unlock Modesto's hidden gems for New Year's Eve with insider tips for celebrations tailored to families, foodies, and night owls.

September 07, 2026

Modesto gives you a relaxed Central Valley base for welcoming 2027, with downtown holiday lights, seasonal ice skating, and two very different New Year's Eve nights to choose from. Dress up for the Casino Royale party, with comedy, a DJ, casino-style games, and a midnight toast, or catch live funk and R&B at Funk Fest. Prefer a low-key afternoon first? Modesto On Ice brings covered skating to downtown through January 18, with tickets sold by session.

The city's MoCheer season adds a festive feel, and its Celebration of Lights parade takes place earlier in December if you're visiting for a longer holiday trip. Winter days are cool, with short daylight hours, so pack a warm layer and plan your evening ride before the countdown. Whether you want a dressed-up party or a live concert, Modesto makes it easy to shape the night around your budget and your style.

What people say about celebrating New Year's in Modesto

We had an awesome time at the New Year's Eve block party in downtown Modesto! The live music was so much fun, and everyone was dancing together. The atmosphere was electric, and we made tons of new friends celebrating together as the clock struck midnight!

I loved the fireworks show that lit up the night sky as we welcomed 2024! We grabbed some delicious tacos from a local food truck before the show, and they were the best I've ever had. It felt magical to eat tasty food while counting down to the New Year under the stars!

Staying at a cozy bed and breakfast made our New Year's Eve feel really special. The owners treated us to homemade pastries and hot cocoa, which was perfect for the chilly night. We enjoyed a warm fireplace as the New Year approached, creating perfect memories to start the year!

Where to Celebrate New Year's Eve in Modesto

The Century: Dress Up for a Casino Royale Countdown

Want a dressed-up night out? NYE Experience 2027: Casino Royale turns The Century in downtown Modesto into a black-tie party for up to 300 guests. It's strictly 21+, and you'll need government-issued ID. Leave the jeans and sneakers at home: black-tie attire is required.

VIP doors open at 6 PM, with general admission starting at 7 PM. A featured comedian performs at 8 PM, followed by DJ entertainment and a midnight countdown with a champagne pour for all guests. VIP includes a cocktail hour and sit-down dinner; general admission does not list dinner as included. A full bar is advertised. Tickets include GA, VIP, table, and Founders options, with prices that may change. Sales are final, but tickets can be transferred. Public parking is available downtown, with directions to follow.

California Ballroom: Dance Into 2027 at Funk Fest

For live music and a more concert-style night, head to the California Ballroom for New Years Eve Funk Fest. The lineup names funk and R&B acts Slave and Lakeside, plus special guests. Doors open at 6 PM, happy hour runs from 6 to 7 PM, and the show starts at 7 PM. The listed end time is 1 AM, giving you plenty of time to dance into 2027.

Food and drinks are available to buy. Bring cash if you can: there's no on-site ATM, and most vendors take cash. Ticket listings show a wide range, from $71.21 to $1,282.33, so check the price and ticket tier at checkout. Sales are final, and the event is rain or shine. Outside food and drinks, oversized bags, and coolers aren't allowed; re-entry isn't permitted.

Where to Watch Fireworks in Modesto on New Year's Eve

images

1. Downtown Modesto

No organized New Year's Eve fireworks display or viewing locations have been verified for Modesto for 2026-2027, so there isn't a confirmed place to watch a midnight show. Downtown is still a lively area to spend the evening, with the Casino Royale party at The Century and Funk Fest at the California Ballroom. Treat those venues as event destinations, not fireworks viewpoints. Check for local updates closer to your trip, and choose your hotel or any dinner plans based on the event you book rather than a promised fireworks view.

2. Virginia Corridor Trailway

For a quieter outdoor break, the Virginia Corridor Trailway offers a paved route through Modesto, with gardens, picnic areas, and shade structures. It's a pleasant spot for a daytime or early-evening walk if the weather is clear, but it is not a designated fireworks viewing area. December 31 has about 9 hours and 37 minutes of daylight, so plan a walk before dusk and bring a warm layer for later. Check a local map for trail access and route details.

3. Modesto On Ice

Modesto On Ice adds a festive stop to a downtown evening, with a covered seasonal rink near K Street and 11th Street. It operates through January 18, 2027, and skating costs $19 per adult session or $15 for children ages 3-12; skate walkers are $5 while supplies last. Session times vary, so check the ticket calendar before you go. The rink is an activity, not a fireworks viewpoint, but it can make a fun start to your night before heading to a ticketed event.

How to Get the Best Fireworks View

1. Check for local updates

Look for event announcements as December 31 gets closer. If a display is added, use its listed viewing guidance instead of assuming a downtown street or trail is an official viewing spot.

2. Plan your evening around your event

The downtown parties have different schedules: Funk Fest starts at 7 PM, while the Casino Royale comedy show begins at 8 PM. Leave time to travel between plans, and arrange your ride before the late-night countdown.

3. Pack for a chilly, short day

Modesto's December climate averages a high of 56.2°F and a low of 38.6°F, though those are seasonal normals, not a forecast. Sunset is around 4:55 PM on December 31, so bring a warm layer and check the weather before heading outside.

Family-Friendly New Year's Eve Activities in Modesto

images

Modesto can make a fun family base for the holiday break, with hands-on indoor stops and winter day trips beyond the city. Keep in mind that some attractions change their hours for the holiday, so check before you set out. Here are a few ideas for kids and grown-ups to enjoy together.

Explore the Modesto Children's Museum

Little travelers can get hands-on with the museum's interactive exhibits. On December 31, it is open from 10 AM to 1 PM, making it a handy daytime plan before the holiday evening. The museum is closed January 1, so plan your visit for New Year's Eve or check its calendar for other dates.

See Giant Sequoias at Calaveras Big Trees State Park

Make a winter day trip to wander among giant sequoias and explore the park's North Grove and South Grove. The park is open on holidays, and day use runs from sunrise to sunset. Vehicle entry is listed at $10, or $12 during special holiday, seasonal, or weekend rates. Check snow, trail, and road conditions before driving; winter weather can change plans.

Plan a Winter Day in Yosemite

Yosemite offers a memorable family outing, with winter walks and chances for snow play in suitable areas. Yosemite Valley and Wawona remain accessible by car year-round, while Tioga and Glacier Point roads typically close by snow. Mountain roads can be icy, and tire chains may be required. Check road conditions and carry chains or cables before you leave.

Best Restaurants for New Year's Eve in Modesto

images

Upscale Dinner Spots

For a special-occasion meal, consider Dewz Restaurant, an American fine-dining spot with a full bar and options for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diners. Galletto Ristorante brings Italian dishes, outdoor seating, and a polished setting to the table. Both are listed in the $$$$ range. Book ahead and check holiday hours before you go.

Where to Eat with Kids

For a relaxed meal with kids, Tahoe Joe's Famous Steakhouse Restaurants has highchairs, a full bar, and a mid-range price tag. Olive Garden is another familiar Italian option, with highchairs and parking available. These are easy picks for groups with different tastes. Check opening hours for New Year's Eve, since holiday schedules may differ.

Budget-Friendly Options

Keeping dinner costs down? In-N-Out Burger is listed as a cheap-eats option, with quick bites and late hours on Fridays and Saturdays. Taqueria Los Compadres is another budget-minded choice for Mexican food, with takeout available. Neither listing includes a special New Year's Eve menu, so think of these as casual meal stops before your plans. Check holiday hours before heading out.

Where to Stay in Modesto for New Year's Eve.

Downtown Modesto

Downtown is the most practical base if you've booked one of the listed New Year's Eve events. The Casino Royale party is at The Century, and Funk Fest is at the California Ballroom. Staying nearby could make it easier to reach your event, but check the actual distance and your ride options before booking. Downtown is an event area, not a promise of a hotel with a fireworks view.

No hotel names or live New Year's Eve rates are available in the details here, so specific downtown properties and prices can't be recommended accurately. Search for a room near your event and compare the total cost, including taxes, parking, and cancellation terms. If you're attending Casino Royale, remember its black-tie dress code and late finish when planning your trip back.

Central Modesto

A central stay outside the immediate event area may suit you if you want to balance convenience with a quieter place to sleep. Use a map to compare lodging with your chosen venue, then check whether the route works for your arrival and return. Holiday transit schedules and late-night service need careful checking, so don't count on a regular bus timetable without confirming it.

No verified hotel list or price ranges are available for this area. To keep your budget in check, compare the full booking total across several options, and check whether parking or breakfast costs extra. Flexible cancellation can be useful when holiday plans shift. For a couple's trip, focus on the room features and atmosphere the property actually lists rather than assuming a hotel offers a special New Year package.

Outer Modesto

Looking beyond downtown may give you more lodging choices, but it can mean a longer trip to the celebrations. This is a practical search area, not a confirmed New Year's Eve district. Before booking, check the route to your event and decide how you'll get back after midnight. The event listings describe surrounding downtown public parking, while detailed directions are due closer to the date.

No specific outer-area hotels or rates are provided here, so compare current listings directly before choosing. Families may want to check room layouts, parking, and breakfast options; budget travelers should compare the final price for the whole stay, not just the nightly rate. If you're driving, check parking rules and the distance to your event. Book only after reviewing the cancellation policy and holiday availability.

New Year's Eve Planning Tips for Modesto

Book Your Event Early

Tickets for both events are paid, and prices or availability may change. Casino Royale is strictly 21+, requires government-issued ID, and has a black-tie dress code. Sales are final, so check the ticket terms before buying.

Plan Your Ride Home

Both parties run past midnight. Check holiday transit schedules before relying on a bus, and set up a ride home in advance. Keep your phone charged and save your route.

Pack for a Chilly Night

December's average temperature is about 8.6°C (47.4°F), but that is a climate normal, not a forecast. Bring a warm layer for waiting or walking outdoors.

Check Dates, Hours, and Road Access

Downtown parking is available around the Casino Royale venue, with event directions to follow for ticket holders. If you're visiting earlier in the season, the December 5 holiday parade has downtown road closures from 1 PM, with listed closures in place by 4 PM.
